Who should take AMSR training?

Health care providers face many challenges when working with patients at risk of suicide. Some patients may not disclose their thoughts of suicide, and if they do, often the health care provider must make judgment calls about unpredictable outcomes, often with insufficient or contradictory information. Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) is based on the latest research and is designed to support safer suicide care practices, such as Zero Suicide. AMSR teaches a prevention-oriented risk formulation focused on planning not predicting.

Which AMSR training is right for me?

AMSR and AMSR for Inpatient Settings online courses are appropriate for clinical professionals who conduct suicide risk assessments with patients, including counselors, social workers, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and nurses. We offer two companion versions, AMSR for Direct Care Staff in Inpatient Settings and AMSR for Direct Care Staff in Outpatient Settings . These trainings are for other staff on the care team who need to understand the risk formulation and treatment plan but do not do the risk assessment. This includes case managers, care navigators, mental health technicians, recovery coaches, peer specialists, and LPNs.

About the AMSR course

The Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk course provides participants with the knowledge and skills they need to address suicide risk and behaviors in outpatient settings. The course develops skills in the recognition, assessment, and management of suicide risk and the delivery of effective suicide-specific interventions. AMSR- teaches the core competencies needed to meet evidence-based suicide care standards. Being familiar with the AMSR approach and the risk formulation will give direct care staff the understanding and skills needed to assist in the care patients who are at risk for suicide. How Do I Navigate Through the Course?

The AMSR for Direct Care Staff courses have been designed for you to be able to progress through in order, one module at a time. Every module teaches a specific topic, and each one builds upon the information you have already covered. At the end of each module you will find a quiz designed to solidify your learning. To navigate around the course simply click Next or Back as you complete each exercise or select the module you wish to view from the navigation menu on the left hand side. When you have completed the entire course you are free to go back and re-explore previous modules. You can revisit sections that you found particularly useful, or return to practice a specific skill that you wish to master before you try it out in your practice.

How do I use the library?

What is CE/CME Credit?

The United States of America and Canada require health professionals to accrue CE/CME (Continuing Education) credits in order to maintain their licenses or registrations. These credits are gained through approved educational activities which serve to develop professional knowledge and performance. CE/CME Credit certificates are submitted to licensing guilds within the U.S.A. and Canada.

Is the course approved for CPD in Australia?

In Australia, our online courses are likely to be worth at least 2 CPD hours per week. AHPRA is the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and governs multiple occupations including psychologists, doctors and nurses. These professions are required in Australia to complete a certain amount of CPD hours annually. How they claim the CPD hours varies by profession and is not a process that either ZSI or Psychwire are involved in. The different governing bodies underneath the AHPRA umbrella have their own specific set of guidelines to be followed by their members. What certificate will I receive when I complete the course?

Each participant who has completed the course in full will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. If you’ve completed at least 75% of the course, you’ll be given a Letter of Participation. These documents will be emailed as a PDF a few weeks after the course ends. These certificates will include the course name, your name, the date, weeks and hours of the course.
